Cameroon’s Lower House of Parliament was in a mourning mood last April 21, 2021 as the casket of departed one of the youngest Members of the House Chamber, Hon Prince Mikody Ange Gilbert was laid in the hall of the Yaounde Conference Centre for fellow MPs to show him their last respect.
A video showing recent activities of the deceased in the National Assembly preceded an ecumenical service ministered by church officials of the Roman Catholic Church led by Father Paul Mekouawa who used the Acts of the Apostles in the Bible to highlight the meaning of death.
Until his death last March 24,2021 at theYaounde General Hospital after an illness, the CPDM MP for the Boumba and Ngoko Constituency in the East region of Cameroon was a member of the Economic Affairs Commission of the National Assembly and President of the Parliamentary Network for Good Governance in the Extractive Resources Sector in Cameroon, REP-GRE.
Testimonies were presented by a representative of the late MP’s family, the President of the Economic Affairs Commission of the National Assembly and lastly that of CPDM Vice Group Leader, Hon Mary Mebokawho after reminding that the CPDM has lost 6 members at the National Assembly with the latest being Deputy Speaker, Hon Emilia Lifaka begged God to spare the National Assembly from death.
MPs’ reviewing of corpse was led by Senior Vice Speaker of the House, Hon Hilarion Etong who was representing House Speaker, Hon CavayeYeguie Djibril.
Also present to pay homage to the fallen MP at 32 years was the Secretary General of the National Assembly, Hon Gaston Komba as well as the mother and other close family members of the departed MP.
