The Divisional President of the National Youth Council for Meme and the Chairman of the Bafaw Traditional council in Kumba have been kidnapped.
The news of the abduction of Messrs Abwa Takang Bernard and Pa Esseme Moses Sunday April 4th, 2021 was received with shock and consternation by the population.
Though no one has claimed responsibility over the sad incident, reports hold that they are under the captivity of alleged separatist fighters.
According to sources, the divisional president, who equally doubles as the personal assistant of the Paramount Ruler of the Bafaw and Kumba, HRM Nfon Mukete Ekoko IV and the Chairman of the Bafaw Traditional Council cum eldest councillor of the Kumba I Council were on a special mission to all the Bafaw villages for the upcoming coronation of the chief of Kumba which comes up on April 21, 2021 at the esplande of the Nfon’s Palace.
Pa Eseme and Abwa Bernard including their driver were taken away allegedly by unidentified gunmen. Passing through Ikiliwindi to Kokobuma they dropped a message to kinsmen at Ikiliwindi to group the villagers for a special meeting. From Kokobuma they made a stop at Ikiliwindi where the alleged Amba fighters are reported to have abducted them.
Though their real whereabouts cannot be located, rumours at Kumba – Njuki is to the effect that their abductors are demanding FCFA 10 million as ransom for them to be “released”.
Meme Division has been the highest hit ever since the on-going armed conflict in the two restive regions of the North West and South West with many denizens being kidnapping and heavy ransoms demanded for their release.
