The Buea branch of the Sacred Heart Ex-Students Association, SHESA, have donated a consignment of food items and relief materials to children of the Kids ward at the general hospital and to orphans at the Mountain Kids Orphanage in Buea.
The items which were donated to the children by members of the Association’s Buea branch consisted of rice, soap, toilet rolls, cooking oil, salt among others.
With their mission to put smiles on the faces of children and the community as a whole, the association carries out the reach out activity yearly to support the underprivileged and those going through pain and suffering.
According to the President of the Association, Barrister Clifford Niba AKONTEH, the year has been characterized by the Corona Virus Pandemic and also the ongoing crisis which have greatly affected the lives of kids in particular and everyone in general.
“Every year we have a reach out activity to support the underprivileged, those in pain or those who are going through some kind of suffering. The Orphanages and those admitted at the general hospital are also going through a lot of difficulties so the association (SHESA) decided to pay a visit with some few items to support them so that it can reduce their financial stress and also visit orphanages to put smiles on faces of the orphans. So we have donated some gifts to the children’s ward at the General hospital in Buea and at the Mountain Orphanage in Bokwango to reciprocate the gesture.
“This is a constant activity carried out by SHESA twice yearly. This is the first event this year and in the month of December we are going to do another and next year we are going to do same”. He voiced
The President added that they(SHESA) do not only reach out to the children but also to Internally displaced persons and in the days ahead, they will also be doing some need assessment to try to see what the IDP’s need and visit some homes and see how they can support them.
On her part, the Orphanage’s Director, Veronica Neh thanked SHESA for choosing Mountain Kids Orphanage to donate the items. She said the items will go a long way to sustain them. She encouraged the initiative and beckoned on others to emulate the good example of SHESA by reaching out to those in need.
The General Supervisor at the Buea Regional hospital Dr Mrs Malika Ekeme was equally very appreciative of the gesture carried out by SHESA to the children at the kids ward in the hospital. She described the philanthropic act as a “square peg in a square hole”.
The Kids at the hospital and those at the orphanage were elated with the donations and thanked the association for considering them as family. The event was characterized by singing, dancing and showering praises to God.
